Despite the loss, River Kings entertain in home opener

Oct. 27, 2013: After a few first regular season games on the road, the Cornwall River Kings finally returned to their own barn Saturday night. In front of a crowd 2,453, all the hard work put into the last 6 weeks to keep the team in Cornwall finally started paying off. Although, not in the way they had hoped.The Marquis de Jonquiere showed just why they are the defending champions. A tough, fast and physical team, the Marquis came away with a 5-2 win. FULL STORY

Oct. 17, 2013: The World Junior A Challenge is set to take action this November and team training camp rosters have been announced. Countries invited to the tournament include Russia, Czech Republic, Switzerland and of course, the United States. Canada has two entries into the tournament: Team Canada East and Team Canada West. Out of the 65 invitees from each eastern Junior A league, 20 are from the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) and 7 of those are from the Cornwall Colts FULL STORY

Oct. 9, 2013: Kurt Etchegary is a fiesty centre from St. John’s, Newfoundland who is currently in his third Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season with the Quebec Remparts. His 25 points in 31 games of last year’s campaign earned him the Assistant Captaincy. We chatted about coming off an injury laden season, playing under the greatness of Patrick Roy and attending an NHL training camp. FULL STORY

Kingston Frontenacs remain only undefeated OHL team

Oct. 7, 2013: After last night’s battle between the Soo Greyhounds and Kingston Frontenacs, only one team left with the title of being the Ontario Hockey League’s only undefeated squad. Ryan Kujawinski added assists on both of Henri Ikonen’s goals which prove the depth caliber on this red hot Kingston roster to keep them out of the loss column. Over 3000 fans took in the big K’s game at the K-Rock Centre and it proved to be an outstanding matchup. FULL STORY

While I could get into a whole spiel on the cons of fighting and why in this day and age it should possibly be taken out, I would not agree with what I what I had wrote. Fighting belongs in hockey. Sep. 24, 2013: Announced today, the Cornwall River Kings shipped centre Olivier Proulx to the new expansion team of the Valleyfield Braves. In return, the Kings received an integral piece of their inaugural season in Steve McJannett. Along with McJannett came scoring machine Dominic Chiasson. So what does this mean for Cornwall? Sep. 22, 2013: After throttling the Peterborough Petes by a score of 11-4 on Thursday night during the season opener, the Kingston Frontenacs didn’t let up steam for their home opener on Friday. After giving a moment of silence in honour of Acadie Bathurst Titan prospect, Jordan Boyd who passed away on the ice last month, it was time for to usher in another Kingston Frontenacs season. Sep. 14, 2013: Earlier this afternoon, word sprang across social media that the Cornwall River Kings were in the midst of a trade. The fan page from the Marquis de Jonquiere let it slip that the River Kings were dealing goaltender Frederic Piche to the Marquis de Jonquiere in exchange for Bobby Mazerolle and Ahmed Mahfouz. Sep. 11, 2013: It’s all over. All the drama of the past 6 months is finally swept under the rug. The Cornwall River Kings are staying in Cornwall. An investors group comprised of David Small, Gokan Karakus and Cory Linthorne are your new River Kings owners. It was a hard fought battle to come up with a plan in less than 24 hours but these 3 gentleman pulled it off and wowed Michel Godin, the Commissioner of the LNAH. FULL STORY

Sep. 7, 2013: The LNAH’s Cornwall River Kings is threatening to be put up for sale for anyone (including out of town buyers), as owner Bernie Villeneuve is no longer willing to finance the team. Reason being is the club is losing out on advertising rights from the Junior A Cornwall Colts who also share the ice inside the Ed Lumley Arena in the Cornwall Civic Complex. FULL STORY
