Friday Five: Chicago Bears at Washington Redskins

Oct. 18, 2013: Remember the days when the Chicago Bears were one ongoing controversy (Tank Johnson, Cedric Benson)? Thankfully the Washington Redskins and their team name are currently in the driver’s seat on that subject. I posted the photo to the right because I loved those Redskin throwback uniforms from 2003. GAME DAY - Chicago Bears at Pittsburgh Steelers

Sep. 22, 2013: Another up and down game goes the Chicago Bears way. Thinking about it, I can’t remember the last time there was a kick return for a touchdown, an interception for a touchdown, and a fumble return for a touchdown all in the same game. Jay Cutler tried to piss the game away (two interceptions and a fumble) as did Matt Forte (4th quarter fumble), but in the end, Cutler and Martellus Bennett capped off a brilliant game winning drive. GAME DAY - Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears

Sep. 15, 2013: The win last week was very satisfying. The reason why: the Chicago Bears finally have coaches who can make halftime adjustments. Over the past couple of years, the Bears were absolutely putrid when trailing at halftime. Aside from one drive in the first half, the offense was generating nothing. FULL STORY

Jordan Palmer is the new Ken Mastrole

Aug. 30, 2013: Watched the final 2013 Chicago Bears preseason game at a GREAT friend’s house tonight. On the short drive back to my pad, I heard a couple callers lauding how great Jordan Palmer looked. “What has Josh McCown done better than Palmer did tonight,” one caller said. Carrying on the tradition of Bears fans pining for the third-string quarterback that won’t make the roster based on his performance in the final BS preseason game. FULL STORY

Five key questions facing the Chicago Bears in 2013

Aug. 26, 2013: With the preseason all but wrapped up, excluding a meaningless game against Cleveland on Thursday, it’s finally time to look ahead to week one against the Bengals. The Chicago Bears, like any team, have holes going into this season, and those holes were on display at times during this preseason. What are Chicago’s keys to a great season? FULL STORY

Chicago Bears Shoe Color

Aug. 23, 2013: In 1990, Mike Ditka‘s Chicago Bears made a throwback change to their uniform. “Back in the day,” before shoe company endorsements became a multi-million dollar industry, football shoes were black. When Dave Wannstedt took over, one of the first announcements to come from his new regime in February 1993 was that the Bears would again wear white shoes. FULL STORY

PRESEASON - San Diego Chargers at Chicago Bears

Aug. 19, 2013: I saw a lot of positives in Thursday night’s preseason game against San Diego, which the Chicago Bears won 33-28. I also saw a lot of negatives. So to me, it seemed as if there was a negative for every positive. It is preseason, but we’ll have to hope things will get cleaned up with just two more rehearsals to go before real games start. Chicago Bears Training Camp - Renewed pre-season excitement

Jul. 31, 2013: Too bad that former defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis‘ career with the Chicago Bears didn’t even start, as he retired before even reporting. Ellis was a top-10 pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2008 that didn’t pan out, but this exact situation worked out pretty good for the Bears in 2011 when they signed another DT failure in Amobi Okoye. PFT - No Respect for the Chicago Bears

Jul. 22, 2013: During this slow time of the year for football (I am desperately working on a Lovie Smith article myself while it’s “slow”-stay tuned), www.ProfootBallTalk.com is ranking all the teams in the NFL. Today, they ranked the Bears in the bottom half of the league-not a playoff team-at number 18. Talk about no respect; the St. Louis Rams just placed ahead of them. FULL STORY

Chicago Bears to retire the number 89 for Mike Ditka

Jul. 9, 2013: Thankfully the Chicago Bears organization clarified this issue when they announced that after Mike Ditka’s, they will no longer retire uniform numbers for players. I say this because I was getting confused. Unfortunately from a football operations perspective, the Bears went down a slippery slope of retiring numbers years and years ago. FULL STORY
