Cornwall - July 11, 2013 - As Montreal Canadiens prospect Michael McCarron signed his NHL entry level contract while opting to head to the Ontario Hockey League with the London Knights, he became the third and final USA Hockey player to become property of the Canadian Hockey League. McCarron spent the last year with the Western Michigan University Broncos.

Seth Jones being the first has also signed an entry level contract with the Nashville Predators and is heading to prospect camp with his head held high. If he doesn’t catch a spot on the team, he will return to the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winterhawks. Jones shocked many at the draft by sliding to 4th overall.

With the final pick in the draft, the Chicago Blackhawks took hometown boy Ryan Hartman. Hartman has yet to receive an entry level deal and it looks like he might be waiting awhile for it as he underwent shoulder surgery merely 8 weeks ago. Hartman will likely start the season in the OHL with his Plymouth Whalers.

The Canadian Hockey League continues to be a bevy of talent for not only Canadian but American and overseas talent as well. The league has recently come under fire though as they are expected to input a rule against drafting European goaltenders citing that it takes away from our Canadian lads. The Barrie Colts defied those odds though and drafted Slovakian goaltender Daniel Gibl in this year’s Import Draft before the rule takes place in 2014.
