Cornwall - December 28, 2011 - We are just a few days away from the end of 2011 and the beginning of another year. At this time of year, it is always interesting to look back over the past twelve months and review the major stories of the year. In our case, we only went live on January 27th, so this year we will review the top stories from February until the end of the year.

In this article, you will find links to six stories from each month of the year. The first three are the most viewed stories by our visitors. The next three for each month, are three other stories that we thought we interesting from that month. With over 1,900 stories posted in a short time, we had difficulty narrowing the list to just 66 stories.

2011 was a year where we said goodbye to some special people in Joe Gunn, Doug Randlett, Pete Latour, Msgr. Rudy Villeneuve, Jack Layton and many more. We had both a federal and provincial election that saw our area elect Guy Lauzon and Jim McDonell - the first time in a long time that we have had Conservative representation in Ottawa and Toronto at the same time.

Cornwall and area played host to some great events in 2011 - Winterfest, Lift-Off, Waterfest, Glengarry Highland Games, Alight at Night, many community fairs and countless fun events in SD&G. In fact, we were pleased to help promote over 3,500 area events this year.

We brought you food and lifestyle stories, regular opinion pieces and attempted to showcase the positive things that happen in our region every week! Our coverage of the Cornwall Colts, Akwesasne Warriors and the Canadian NHL teams continues to grow and receive large readership numbers.

News events in 2011 included the opening of the new Benson Centre, the Canada Post strike, the announcement of a Target Distribution Centre and the relocation of Customs to Massena - to name just a few.

We will come close to registering one million page views in our first eleven months and for that we are extremely grateful to the thousands of you who have made us one of your regular online news destinations. We hope you will enjoy this look back at 2011.
