Cornwall - Jul. 26, 2011 - It was a chance to relive old high school memories and make new ones.

On July 15-17, Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School (CCVS) hosted the 2011 Homecoming celebrations.

The event marked the school’s 205th anniversary, and also helped to publicize the reconfiguration of the school in September 2011 to a Grades 7-12 facility, said Judy Bobka, secretary and registrar for the 2011 Homecoming Committee.

Organizers planned a wine and cheese party, Homecoming pep rally parade, barbecue and other events to celebrate the anniversary and help members of the Raiders’ family reconnect.

“We had fun getting ready, we had a blast on the weekend and we’re ready to do it again,” said Bobka.

On July 15, guests and graduates were welcomed to the school and encouraged to visit their “year room” where they could see memorabilia and visit with others from their graduating year. Later, a wine and cheese party was hosted in the gymnasium.

On July 16, guests marched in the Homecoming pep rally parade with classic cars marking the decades and years of graduation.

Following the parade, an outstanding barbecue was served to all, said Bobka. Later, guests enjoyed a rugby game between the CCVS Classics and the Ottawa Irish.

“The Coffee House, featuring the Shiners Band with two CCVS grads, took us down memory lane in song and dance,” said Bobka. “Homecoming registration gave guests access to everything at CCVS, as well as the Kinsmen Cornwall Lift-Off featuring popular music groups on the huge stage in Lamoureux Park.”

On July 17, guests attended an ecumenical church service at Trinity Anglican Church where Bishop John Strachan " the founder of CCVS " once preached.

CCVS was founded in 1806 by Bishop Strachan as the Cornwall Grammar School. Strachan would later go on to found the University of Toronto.
