Cambridge - Nov. 4, 2011 - Goalie Ben Scrivens made his NHL debut last night for the Toronto Maple Leafs and stopped 38 shots to earn the victory. Clarke MacArthur scored a pair in the 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Leafs improved their record to 9-3-1, good enough to tie the Pittsburgh Penguins for first place overall in the NHL. They also have a five point lead over Ottawa in the Northeast division. The Leafs didn’t reach their 9th win last season until December 4th.

Joey Crabb scored his second in as many nights, and John-Michael Liles added a single. Columbus starting netminder Steve Mason was pulled after allowing four goals on 11 shots.

Scrivens, who is 25, is the Leafs third-string goalie. Mainstay James Reimer is still nursing the whiplash/head injury acquired a couple weeks ago. Jonas Gustavssion, who has been the main fill-in, played the night before in a 5-3 win over the New Jersey Devils.

The Leafs next game is at home Saturday when they face the Boston Bruins.

Leaf Notes:
Phil Kessel still leads the league in goals (10) and points (21) and plus-minus (10). He’s tied for second in assists (11). Surprisingly, Joffrey Lupul is among the leaders as well. He’s tied with Kessel for first in plus-minus and is third in points (16) and tied for third in goals (8).
