Luis wins WBC Intercontinental Title with First Round KO
Tony Luis can add the WBC Intercontinental Belt (junior welterweight division - 140 pounds) Americas Super Featherweight title to his resume. The Cornwall native was overpowering in his first round knockout of Alejandro Barrera to capture the most important belt of his young career.

Montreal - Oct. 3, 2011 - Tony Luis can add the WBC Intercontinental Belt (junior welterweight division - 140 pounds) Americas Super Featherweight title to his resume. The Cornwall native was overpowering in his first round knockout of Alejandro Barrera to capture the most important belt of his young career.

Luis improves to 13-0 (5 KOs) while Barrera drops to 21-9. Luis brought the roughly 200 Cornwall and area residents who made the trek to the Pierre Charbonneau Arena in Montreal to their feet early and they never sat down. The victory puts Luis on the WBC map with a top 30 ranking likely and a top 20 ranking possible. Luis was very humble in victory as thanked his father, manager and head trainer Jorge Luis as well as his corner man from Cornwall Matt Veenstra.

There's no word yet on when Luis plans to defend his newest prize.
