Summer Recess as the Member of Parliament for SDSG
Parliament rose for the summer break at the end of June and the so called "barbecue season" began. I am still not sure what is meant by this term but, I can tell you I have been out and about since the beginning of July and the only BBQ I attended was our own SDSG Constituency Picnic. I have attended events throughout the riding including seven Canada Day celebrations, the Highland Games, numerous Fairs, sports tournaments, and many other events.

Cornwall - August 12, 2013 - Parliament rose for the summer break at the end of June and the so called "barbecue season" began.

I was pleased to have participated in an event where the SD&G Community Futures Development Corporation (SD&G CFDC) announced a $30,000 dollar contribution to Seaway Valley Crime Stoppers that will support a new program, Stay on Course, through the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP). Further, I had the pleasure of announcing that Winchelsea Events in North Dundas will receive $50, 000 in funding through the Eastern Ontario Development Program. I was also honoured to welcome Minister of Agriculture, Gerry Ritz, to Moorewood to announce a new import levy that will provide new investments in research and market development for Canada's beef industry.

My favourite part about my summer’s working in the riding are the many events I am able to attend because I get the opportunity to consult with many of my constituents. As your representative in Ottawa, it is my duty to take your concerns to Parliament. Summer is the perfect time to receive feedback from my constituents when I am out and about in the riding. So far, I have received a lot of feedback; positive feedback, some criticism, and a number of good suggestions as to how our Government can deliver better service to Canadians.

Creating jobs, growing the economy and reducing the deficit tops the list of concerns for most constituents I have spoken with. Many are worried that if the economy takes a downturn their employment may suffer. The agriculture community appears to be healthy and most SDSG farmers are cautiously optimistic for the near future. Health care along with crime are also still major concerns to residents, especially seniors. I look forward to meeting many more of my constituents over the summer months so I can I represent their views in Ottawa. If you see me at an event, I encourage you to approach me with your concerns.
