FAO Statement on Ontario

The new COVID-19 Recovery Rate of 12.8 c/kWh will increase a typical residential ratepayer bill by $16 per month and a typical commercial ratepayer bill by $50 per month compared to suspending time-of-use (TOU) electricity pricing at the lowest "off-peak" rate of 10.1 c/kWh

Toronto - Jun. 5, 2020:
The new COVID-19 Recovery Rate of 12.8 c/kWh will increase a typical residential ratepayer bill by $16 per month and a typical commercial ratepayer bill by $50 per month compared to suspending time-of-use (TOU) electricity pricing at the lowest "off-peak" rate of 10.1 c/kWh.
When comparing the COVID-19 Recovery Rate of 12.8 c/kWh to the alternative of re-instating TOU pricing, the difference in electricity bills for ratepayers will be small. The FAO estimates that the new COVID-19 Recovery Rate of 12.8 c/kWh will save a typical residential ratepayer $1.40 per month and cost a typical commercial ratepayer$3.00 per month compared to re-instating time-of-use (TOU) electricity pricing. The small difference in electricity bills is because the new COVID-19 Recovery Rate of 12.8 c/kWh is the price a typical time-of-use ratepayer paid for electricity prior to the start of the COVID-19 economic containment measures.
