Cornwall - July 19, 2013 - The SDG Community Futures Development Corporation (SDG CFDC) announced today that a $30,000 dollar contribution to Seaway Valley Crime Stoppers will support new program Stay on Course through the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP).
“The Government of Canada recognizes the important role that not-for-profit community based organizations play in strengthening our rural communities,” said MP Guy Lauzon. “We want our children to be active, healthy and have fun while participating in sports and physical activity.”
“Stay on Course is a golf pilot program structured to present a quality curriculum that develops competency, understanding through movement and physical skills.” said Seaway Valley Crime Stoppers Chair Frank McDonald. “Through this program, youth beginning at the age of 11 will be exposed to the motor patterns associated with golf, along with the inherent values of the game.”
Crime Stoppers is a proactive and progressive program which assists in solving crime and contributing to a better quality of life for all ages. Crime Stoppers works in a partnership with media, law enforcement and the communities of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry and Akwesasne.
The Stay on Course for Communities teaches character values through golf is a partnership program between the Upper Canada District School Board, Ontario Provincial Police, Humber College, Morrisburg Golf Course, Iroquois Golf Course and Golf Course Owners Association.
EODP is funded by the Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, and delivered via the Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) located throughout eastern Ontario. The EODP promotes economic development in rural eastern Ontario leading to a diversified and competitive economy, economic stability, economic growth, and job creation, and contributes to the successful development of business and prosperous communities.
