The Cornwall Community Police Service wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season and reminds motorists that calling a cab or a sober designated driver is the smartest way to get home if your own driving abilities are impaired.

Cornwall - December 12, 2011 - The Cornwall Community Police Service wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season and reminds motorists that calling a cab or a sober designated driver is the smartest way to get home if your own driving abilities are impaired.

The Cornwall Community Police Service is advising the community that we will continue to conduct Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) check points throughout the Christmas Holidays, the week leading up to and including New Years Eve in an ongoing effort to make the streets in our community a safer place to travel during the holidays.

The R.I.D.E. program has great rewards for all of us. The greatest single reward is that it removes impaired drivers from our roads, thus preventing deaths, injuries and property damage.

As a result of the various R.I.D.E. check points and community patrol already conducted since the beginning of December over 500 vehicles were stopped. The road side screening device was used on 2 occasions, 1 three day suspensions was issued, 1 Highway Traffic Act offence was well as 1 Criminal Code offence was laid.
