Cornwall - November 21, 2011 - Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School (CCVS) alumnus and local author Dean C. Swift visited the school last Thursday to donate his book, My Island in the Sun, to the Author’s Shelf of the Battista Library at CCVS, and speak to the senior students about his writing journey.

Swift spoke to Andrea Ward’s Writer’s Craft class and explained to students why he wanted to write his book. He also talked about his experiences achieving his goals in writing, editing and publishing.

Swift encouraged students to dream big, never give up, and collaborate with others of similar interests.

Students asked questions about the recommended length of time to write, topic selection, and cost of publishing a book. A few students mentioned that they’d already started writing their own books.

The Author’s Shelf was established at the 200th CCVS Anniversary Celebration to display the works of CCVS graduates. Currently, there are 34 books on the shelf that have been placed there by alumni writers.
