Winchester - November 15, 2011 - Winchester District Memorial Hospital and the Glengarry Inter Agency Group Inc. (GIAG) are pleased to confirm that the Early Years Centre will be the final tenant in the new health building on the WDMH site.
“The Glengarry Inter Agency Group Inc. is looking forward to providing our Early Years services for families in North Dundas in a new larger space. The GIAG will also offer activities for pre-teens and teens in a new youth centre,” explains Cathy Ashby, Manager, Child and Youth Programs. “The Centre of Excellence for Rural Health and Education provides the GIAG with the opportunity to support families ‘together on life’s journey’.”
The Early Years Centre is a place where parents and caregivers can participate in a range of programs and activities with their children; get information about available programs and services; and talk to early years professionals as well as other parents and caregivers in the community. The North Dundas Youth Centre will offer recreational and educational activities for youth between the ages of 9 and 17 that focus on community involvement, health and wellness, as well as life skills.
“We are very pleased to have the GIAG and the Early Years Centre as our newest partner in the Centre of Excellence for Rural Health and Education,” adds Cholly Boland, WDMH CEO. “Together we are creating a local and virtual health community to shape the future, and care for the families around us. The focus is on building partnerships to support healthy rural communities.”
The Centre of Excellence will house related health and community related service providers, who, in partnership with the hospital, serve the needs of our multiple rural communities. Clients who use multiple services will benefit from having them all in one location, with links to the hospital and Dundas Manor. The Eastern Ontario Health Unit, the Champlain Community Care Access Centre and Job Zone d’Emploi have also been confirmed as tenants in the new building.
A separate not-for-profit corporation has been established to build and manage this building, which while on hospital property, is not part of the hospital’s operation. The new entity has a separate Board of Directors.
“Providing building space for these health and community-related organizations is an ideal use of hospital lands and fits the Board’s mandate of integrating WDMH’s health related and community-focused services,” explains John Polak, Chair of the WDMH Board of Directors. “We are excited to take this next step in partnership development in providing a broad range of care close to home and spanning the continuum from prevention to residential care.”
