Finch - Nov. 1, 2011 - Nominations are now being accepted for the 4th Annual Tri-Valley Conservation Awards in the Mississippi Valley, Rideau Valley and South Nation watersheds.

These important community awards recognize and celebrate the voluntary work of ordinary people doing extraordinary things for our environment. Past winning projects have included tree planting, water conservation, industrial innovation, municipal projects that protect water quality and many more.

Two major changes have been introduced for the 2011 awards. The dates of the nomination period and Awards Gala have been changed to better accommodate schools and universities. In addition, a new Lifetime Conservation Achievement Award has been added for each of the three conservation authorities.

"With each passing year these awards grow in popularity and importance within the conservation community," says South Nation Board Chair Lawrence Levere. "We encourage our residents to nominate one of the many worthy groups or individuals in the South Nation Watershed. They deserve our recognition!"

The awards committee is now accepting nominations in the following categories:

- Primary Schools (JK-grade 6)
- Intermediate/High School (grades 7-12)
- College/University
- Agriculture
- Community Groups

Winners will be announced and recognized at the Tri-Valley Conservation Awards Gala to be held at the Rideau Valley Conservation Centre in Manotick on the evening of April 18, 2012. This special evening of fun, food and the environment will showcase the top nominees in each category, and is open to the public.
