Queen's Park - Oct. 14, 2011 - The next MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, Jim McDonell, joined Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak at Queen’s Park on Friday as the Party’s newly-elected members attended MPP boot camp to get ready to fight for the priorities of Ontario families.

Looking at the calibre of the 16 new recruits, Hudak said it’s clear there is one party on the rise in Ontario and another on the decline. While the Ontario PCs picked up an additional 12 seats and 16 new members - their biggest gain since the 1995 election - the Dalton McGuinty Liberals lost 19 seats, which is their biggest drop since losing government in 1990.

McDonell is now part of a bigger, stronger Ontario PC Caucus that is ready to hold Dalton McGuinty to account and fight for the change families deserve. His eight years as mayor of South Glengarry have given him a deep knowledge of the challenges facing his constituents, and how to best provide them the change they need as their representative at Queen’s Park.

“It’s very clear there is a party on the rise in Ontario and a party on the decline. The energized new recruits to the Ontario PC team are ready to fight for the priorities of the Ontario families that put them here - job creation, balancing the budget and relief for the family budget," said Hudak.

“In Jim, the proud families in the riding of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry are going to have an MPP that will bring his many years of public service experience to Queen’s Park, and stand up for the relief families need, the focus on job creation our province requires, and the values we all share.”

Jim McDonell was elected as the next MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry by more than 13,000 votes.

Jim’s long involvement with municipal government includes eight years as mayor of South Glengarry, and time spent as a councillor for South Glengarry and Charlottenburgh. During his tenure with Bell Canada, Jim was instrumental in bringing high-speed Internet to nearly 100 percent of his township, and he has been a community volunteer for over 27 years.

Tim Hudak and the Ontario PCs won 37 seats in the October 6, 2011 provincial election, picking up 16 new members of provincial parliament. Of those 16 new members, 12 won in ridings previously held by Liberal MPPs and four won in ridings held by retiring Ontario PC members. By comparison, the Ontario Liberals lost 19 seats.
