Cornwall - Sep. 27, 2011 - Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry PC Candidate Jim McDonell, along with Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark, announced that an Ontario PC government will put an end to Dalton McGuinty’s legacy of waste. McDonell said a Tim Hudak PC government will subject every one of Ontario’s 630 agencies, boards and commissions (ABCs) to a simple test: If it works, keep it. If it's broken, fix it. If it can’t justify its existence, it goes.

As a start, McDonell announced that an Ontario PC government will eliminate the ballooning Ontario Power Authority bureaucracy, as well as the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) health bureaucracies that have wasted half a billion dollars on management, salaries, and administrative expenses.

On October 6th, Ontario families have a clear choice between Dalton McGuinty, who will increase taxes and waste more money on bloated bureaucracy, or a Tim Hudak PC government that will manage the provincial budget like a family budget - and put an end to Dalton McGuinty's wasteful scandals, fraud, and secret deals.

“Under Dalton McGuinty, a government that is already too big and too expensive will keep expanding with more eHealth-style waste. A Tim Hudak PC government will stop the wasteful spending on agencies, boards, and commissions in its tracks," said Jim McDonell, Ontario PC Candidate, Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.

“Under Dalton McGuinty, you can take any three letters in the alphabet, put them in any order you want, and you get a government board, agency or commission that you have never heard of, but are paying tens of millions of dollars a year to sustain. Put an 'e' in front of it and you're into the billions when it comes to the McGuinty Liberals," added McDonell.

QUICK FACTS:

  • The review of government agencies, boards and commissions (ABCs) would be on a reverse onus basis, meaning the individual ABCs would have to justify their existence through a performance review. The review process would allow for public input.

  • The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) is an example of the runaway-waste that has defined Dalton McGuinty’s eight years in office. Originally conceived as a temporary, 15-person organization, the OPA has driven up hydro bills for families as it has grown into a bloated 253-person organization, where 91 people make six-figure salaries and the CEO takes home more than half a million dollars per year.

  • The LHINs have seen a 240% increase in the number of employees making over $100,000 annually (from 40 to 136) and 18 employees who make over $200,000 annually since 2006.
