Gladstone Public School to offer free after-school access

As a recipient of the Ministry of Education’s Priority Schools initiative, Gladstone Public School will offer free after-school access to community groups starting September 2011. The Priority Schools initiative provides funding to selected school boards in order that not-for-profit groups will have free access to school facilities outside school hours.

Cornwall - Sep. 9, 2011 - As a recipient of the Ministry of Education’s Priority Schools initiative, Gladstone Public School will offer free after-school access to community groups starting September 2011.

The Priority Schools initiative provides funding to selected school boards in order that not-for-profit groups will have free access to school facilities outside school hours. Free use of school space will allow organizations to offer affordable or no-cost programming to community residents.

“We’re very excited to be able to open the doors of our school to more community groups,” said Principal Cathy Cooper. “Currently, we only have two organizations using the gymnasium after school. Gladstone is an important community hub, and we want to make it available to as many people as we can.”

Gladstone will use the funding to eliminate rental fees for groups such as those serving children and youth, low income, Board non-credit general interest continuing education courses, seniors, community adult groups (service clubs, philanthropic organizations, charitable groups, etc.), and other Ontario government-funded programs.

Cooper says interested groups can contact her to determine if the school facility is available during the time requested.
