McGuinty wastes more health care dollars on Champlain LHIN Bureaucrats

The release of Public Accounts this week reveals that Dalton McGuinty continues to waste precious health care dollars on his regional health bureaucracies, the LHINs. Across Ontario, $63 million was diverted from frontline patient care to pay for administrative costs at the LHINs last year alone.

Toronto - Aug. 27, 2011 - The release of Public Accounts this week reveals that Dalton McGuinty continues to waste precious health care dollars on his regional health bureaucracies, the LHINs. Across Ontario, $63 million was diverted from frontline patient care to pay for administrative costs at the LHINs last year alone.

Locally, the Champlain LHIN wasted $150,000 on board salaries and expenses. In total, $5.1 million was diverted from front line patient care to pay for administration at the Champlain LHIN. The $5.1 million Dalton McGuinty wasted on his LHIN bureaucrats could have paid for as many as 6,375 MRI exams, 58 new nurse practitioners or a full year of long-term care for 117 seniors.

Ontario families need change.

On October 6th, Ontario families face a clear choice between more of Dalton McGuinty diverting precious health care dollars to pay for his LHIN bureaucracies, or change with Tim Hudak and the Ontario PC Party who will close the doors on the LHINs and invest in frontline patient care.

“A Tim Hudak Ontario PC government will close the doors on Dalton McGuinty’s wasteful and scandal-plagued LHIN bureaucracy and reinvest the health care dollars the McGuinty Liberals squander back into frontline patient care,”said Jim McDonell, Ontario PC Candidate for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.

“Dalton McGuinty is out of touch with the priorities of families. It is simply appalling for McGuinty to spend $5.1 million on Champlain LHIN bureaucrats who don’t see a single patient. It’s time for change in Ontario.”

Since 2006, Dalton McGuinty has diverted over $300 million from front line patient care to pay for administration at his LHIN bureaucracies.

Since 2006 the number of employees making over $100,000 annually at the LHINs has increased from 40 to 136 - a 240% increase. 18 employees now make over $200,000 annually at the LHINs.

In a two year period, the LHINs handed out over $7 million in un-tendered sweetheart deals to consultants -including Liberal friends who made millions in the billion dollar eHealth boondoggle.
