Cornwall - Aug. 21, 2011 - It was a fabulous day for a swim, a bike ride and a run for the 142 participants at this year’s Cornwall Triathlon Young Champions Day! Children as young as three years of age participated in this year’s event.

“What a great group of kids!” beamed Terry Lauzon, event organizer when asked about the day, “The weather turned out and the races were fantastic!”

Children were given the option of participating in either a triathlon or a duathlon; swimming at the Cornwall Aquatic Centre, biking East on a traffic free course to St. Lawrence College and running along Lamoureux Park. Although many participants took their competition seriously, all children received a medal and the youth races were not timed. A tremendous amount of volunteers were on hand for this event ensuring that participants and spectators were at ease with the processes and enjoyed the event to the fullest.

Awards were given to the first male and female to finish in each age category. Winners included:

Triathlon 12-14 - Wyatt Brochert and Katie Walker
Duathlon 12-14 - Mathias Croney and Alexa Riley
Triathlon 10-11 - Phillipe Fournelle and Sarah Borrens
Duathlon 10-11 - Rob Lapierre and Madison Snelgrove
Triathlon 7-9 - Marcus Beckstead and Kennedy Kilger
Duathlon 7-9 - Vincent Lacroix and Camden Tait

The Sunday adult events include 5km run, Try-A-Tri, Sprint, Olympic and Sprint Relay Triathlon distances and a Sprint Duathlon. Participants will depart from L’Heritage High School.

The bike course will be closed to traffic. Montreal Road from Boundary Road to Marlborough Street will be closed in both directions. Also closed will be Marlborough South of Montreal Road, Harbour Road, Cotton Mill Street and McConnell Ave south of Montreal Road.
