Cornwall - Jul. 11, 2011 - The Cornwall Community Police Service along with several law enforcement agencies will be participating in the “Cops for Cancer” head shave event on Saturday, July 16th, 2011 at 11:00 am in Lamoureux Park. All proceeds will go to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Police officers across the province play a leadership role in organizing the Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer events by involving the community in fundraising and cancer awareness activities.

The events range from head shaves in public places to participating in bike rides such as Pedal for Hope to organizing various school-based fundraising activities.

To raise funds in the fight against cancer, event participants collect pledges from their co-workers, friends, family and community members.

To date, the Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops for Cancer program has raised more than $45.5 million across Canada.

To add to the fun of the event, professional boxer, Cornwall’s own Tony Luis and Cornwall City Councillor David Murphy are hoping to contribute to the fundraising total. Both have agreed to have whipped cream pies thrown in their face if $500 is raised the day of the event at Lamoureux Park. The person or group who contributes the most gets to choose the person(s) who get to throw the pies.
