Area OPP cracking down on Distracted Driving
Do you talk on your cell phone while driving? Have you been known to text while behind the wheel? How about play with your ipod or GPS? All of these are against the law and the enforcement of that law is taken very seriously. “Distracted Driving” is one of the “Big Four” and the Ontario Provincial Police will be very vigilant in the area of its enforcement.

Long Sault - Jul. 8, 2011 - Do you talk on your cell phone while driving? Have you been known to text while behind the wheel? How about play with your ipod or GPS? All of these are against the law and the enforcement of that law is taken very seriously.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to advise motorists that “Distracted Driving” is one of the “Big Four” and that the OPP will be very vigilant in the area of enforcement throughout the year.

Starting from 11th - 17th July the OPP is conducting a “Distracted Driving Campaign” in an effort to keep our roadways safe.

Drivers who continue to use their handheld communication or entertainment devices will be issued a Provincial Offence Notice (ticket) that will result in a fine of $155.00 and demerit points.

Distracted drivers are a safety risk to themselves and others. The OPP is committed to ensuring the safety of all motorists in Ontario.
