Cornwall - Jun. 10, 2011 - There will be a great deal of celebration going on in Canada on July 1st. Activities are planned in Cornwall, throughout Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry as well as Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, and Marie Lemay, Chief Executive Officer of the National Capital Commission (NCC), recently announced the programming for the Canada Day Noon and Evening shows. "Canada Day belongs to all Canadians. This year, we invite everyone to take part in the Canada Day Noon Show in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge," said Minister Moore. "We invite all Canadians across this great country to come together on this special day and celebrate the fact that we live in a free, democratic, and bilingual country."

"The Canada Day celebrations in the Capital region are a window on the entire country, a wonderful opportunity to share our common values, aspirations, and achievements," said Ms. Lemay. "On July 1, there will be a sea of red and white as Canadians gather in the Capital to celebrate our country's 144th birthday and welcome the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge." On July 1, Parliament Hill will be the setting for Canada Day celebrations.

Thousands of Canadians will converge on the Hill to mark their country's birthday. In the morning, they will be able to attend the Peace Tower carillon concert at 9:00 a.m., the traditional flag-raising ceremony at 9:30, and the Changing of the Guard at 10:00.

The Noon Show will include the traditional flypast of CF-18s and the Snowbirds Demonstration Team. It will highlight the new mission of Canadian Forces in Afghanistan, the new Canadians' citizenship celebration, and the centennial of Parks Canada. The show will feature top performers who will stir a feeling of patriotism and pride in Canadians:

• Great Big Sea (Newfoundland and Labrador) • Pierre Lapointe (Quebec) • Florence K (Quebec) • Sam Roberts Band (Quebec) • Corb Lund (Alberta) • Dan Mangan (British Columbia) • Elisapie Isaac (Quebec) • Jenn Grant (Prince Edward Island) • Au tour de la Bolduc with Florence K, Fab and Frannie of Random Recipe (Quebec), and Oumou Soumaré (New Brunswick) • Maria Aragon (Manitoba) • Les 7 doigts de la main (Quebec) • Delhi 2 Dublin (British Columbia)

Rounding out the Noon Show lineup are itinerant drum troupe Kumpa'nia, string quartet Quatuor Orphée, dance troupe Zogma, and world music group Soul Influence, who will share their enthusiasm and good vibes with the audience.
