Cornwall - May. 21, 2011 - Recently, TD Canada Trust representatives Leigh MacDonald and Michelle Huntley announced that TD Canada Trust has increased its sponsorship of the St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Science’s youth programs to $90,000 for the next three years.

“This sponsorship proves our commitment to the St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences and the programs they offer for young people. We are proud to be associated with the success of the Eco-Friends Summer Camp, the Jr. Scientist Camp, the Youth Internship Program, and now the Special Kids programs as well”, stated Leigh MacDonald at the River Institute’s recent Annual General Meeting.

In response, Executive Director Dr. Jeff Ridal expressed his gratitude. “The River Institute has demonstrated considerable growth in the past few years in its education programs for young people. It is our mandate to make an impact on young people in our community, and this support from TD Canada Trust enables us to continue to meet those goals.”

The River Institute reaches over 5,000 young people every year through its summer camp experience programs and educational programs for schools.

In these programs, hands on activities such as field sampling, identification, lab work, and analysis are combined with fun outings that involve catching frogs and fish. Participants of all ages are encouraged to maintain an interest in science that will carry them into their high school years and beyond.
