Queen's Park - May 29, 2012 - Thursday, May 24th, Liberal Finance Minister Dwight Duncan and House Leader John Milloy held a press conference, blaming the PC party for delaying the passage of the budget. The problem is clearly theirs, as they are refusing to accept the will of the Legislature, another broken promise by this Liberal McGuinty government.

When the ORNGE Air Ambulance scandal first broke, the Minister of Health deflected the heat by committing to an all-party select committee, if it was the will of the House. The Auditor-General’s Report was released on March 21, 2012, identifying over $700 million spent without proper oversight and a web of companies created by ORGNE that he was refused access to investigate. A motion demanding that the government create an all party select committee to get to the bottom of the ORNGE debacle was put forward by the opposition and carried successfully. The McGuinty Government reneged on their promise and forwarded it to the Public Accounts Committee, which has very limited powers. Our party has committed to ringing bells and delaying legislation until the Liberals abide by the will of the Legislature and establish an all-party select committee to get to the bottom of the ORNGE debacle - or until they give the Public Accounts Committee the terms of reference it requires to fully investigate the scandal.

Under the current structure, the committee only has two more days to meet before it adjourns until September. Sworn testimony by a number of witnesses has contradicted statements by the Premier and other Ministers. Letters have been issued to employees and member of our party, threatening firings and lawsuits. Witnesses have refused to appear to date knowing that only two days of hearings are left until the committee is forced to adjourn. The Liberals have used all kinds of delaying tactics to attempt to run the committee’s limited time out. This latest ploy just indicates the determination by this government to block the public from finding out exactly what happened at ORGNE and where this money went. One has to wonder why they are blocking this investigation and what are they trying to hide. The people of Ontario deserve to know. Contact the Premier's office and voice your concerns.
