Lancaster - Jun. 24, 2011 - A new Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic in Lancaster will bring peace of mind to approximately 1,600 people in the community who will be able to access health care services closer to home.

Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics offer a team-based approach to frontline health care services by collaborating with doctors and other health care professionals. The addition of Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics is part of the province’s plan to increase access to health care services for all Ontarians.

The Glengarry Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic’s team of staff includes 2 Nurse Practitioners and other health professionals - such as a Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse, Registered Dietician, Social Worker and Management/Clerical Staff - once fully operational this month. A Doctor will also collaborate with the Nurse Practitioners at the clinic.

By next spring, 25 Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics will be open across the province. Currently, 8 Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics are operating in Ontario. Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics are a key part of the government's Open Ontario plan to provide better access to health care services while improving quality and accountability for patients.

“I am excited that the Glengarry Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic is providing residents and our community with important health care services. It will make it easier for people in Lancaster and the surrounding rural areas to get the primary care they need. This clinic continues to demonstrate our government's commitment to frontline health care," said Jim Brownell, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry

"The Glengarry Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic (NPLC) is an innovative model that is designed to improve access to health care for our residents who currently don’t have a primary care provider, and is the fifth NPLC to open in the province. The clinic has a comprehensive, teambased approach which will improve the health of our clients and the community. We are thrilled to be open," said Mary Johnson, Administrator for The Glengarry Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic
