Stoney Point - September 12, 2013 - Today, one of our own will embark out on a 650 km journey to raise funds for the United Way. Our Hometown columnist Dean Eastman is participating in the Bike for United Way ride and is currently on his bike after leaving North Bay this morning.
Bike for United Way (B4UW) will raise funds for the annual fall 2013 Ontario Public Service United Way campaign. A group of staff from provincial ministries are volunteering their time and energy to cycle from one of three cities - Ottawa, Windsor or North Bay - to Toronto, to support the charity and promote healthy living. Each route will take five days to complete, with all riders meeting at Queen’s Park on September 16.
The participants are challenging themselves for a great cause - to raise awareness and $75,000 for the United Way. Funds raised through the ride will help the United Way’s network of member agencies and programs ensure that hundreds of thousands of Ontarians have access to vital social services when and where they need it most - in their community.
The ride involves 35 OPS riders from across 15 different ministries. Eastman was amongst 16 brave riders who left North Bay at 9:00 am this morning.
