What a night! A perfect kick-off to Windsor Symphony Orchestra season
I was thrilled when my husband said he had tickets for us to attend the Windsor Symphony Orchestra on September 28th. We’ve recently relocated to the area and I had not attended the orchestra for a few years, as we were in Cornwall which does not have an orchestra and we had a baby so driving to Ottawa or Montreal was an endeavour.

Windsor - September 30, 2012 - I was thrilled when my husband said he had tickets for us to attend the Windsor Symphony Orchestra on September 28th. We’ve recently relocated to the area and I had not attended the orchestra for a few years, as we were in Cornwall which does not have an orchestra and we had a baby so driving to Ottawa or Montreal was an endeavour (parents reading this statement nod all knowing). The baby is now two and a half and Grandma lives in Grandma -sitting vicinity so life is becoming “normal” once again.

I was floating not even knowing what was on the menu for the evening and my husband kept talking Spitfires - having attended the win on the Thursday. Let’s just say the orchestra was more for my soul then his but having completed a little reading on what we were going to attend, I knew he would be in for a treat. My husband had never attended an orchestral event and he knew it was something I missed, so attending the opening night for the WSO with the Fiddle Player’s Symphony was a wonderful introduction for him.

We came to learn that the WSO now has a permanent home at the Capitol Theatre and let me say, conductor Kevin Mallon and guest fiddler Frank Leahy rocked the house. A perfect kick-off to the season and for those who regularly attend and newbie’s alike, what a night. Leahy, Mallon and the orchestra educated and delighted us throughout the evening. I know … I know, how can a night at the orchestra be so much fun? Trust me, my husband had goose bumps at the start with Oh Canada, was laughing because the Fiddle Player is the reason music exists today and walked out reviewing the programme for the next concert. Windsor has a heck of an orchestra and we got to meet a few of them one-on-one displaying their incredible talent and love of music.

The WSO is in the midst of choosing their next conductor. Mallon is competing with seven others, making the WSO a happening place to attend - as each competitor wants to shine. The Capitol Theatre has a breath new life with its talented new inhabitant’s which will prove to be an electrifying season so here’s the link to the site WindsorSymphony.com - enjoy the adventure!
