Two-On-Six Episode 4: Mrs. A

Our first former Cornwall Royals player, was Darren Colbourne. As expected, Colby was a great interview and told some awesome stories - including a few about his time staying at Davina Alexander's home. (More affectionately called Mrs. A). Once our podcast went live, some pretty neat things happened. We were thrilled to have Darren, Paul Lalande, Tom Nemeth, Ryan VandenBussche and Rob Dykeman join us for this reunion podcast with Mrs. A!

Stoney Point - Jun. 19, 2020:
In the midst of this global pandemic, Tim Cornett and I decided to start a podcast that would feature former Windsor Spitfires and former Cornwall Royals. Tim would lead on the Windsor side and I would lead on the Cornwall side.

Our first former Cornwall player, was Darren Colbourne. As expected, Colby was a great interview and told some awesome stories - including a few about his time staying at Davina Alexander's home. (More affectionately called Mrs. A).

Once our podcast went live, some pretty neat things happened. Reno Rushford shared it with Darren’s teammate and roommate Paul Lalande and those two guys were able to reconnect after 30 plus years. My wife Cynthia helped me find Mrs. A on Facebook and she and I were able to reconnect.

Initially, I simply wanted to make sure that Mrs. A got to see the video. However, in our Facebook chat, she said to me, “I could have added a few more stories to Darren's stay with us!.” I responded with “We might need to have you on as a guest - to tell all those stories!” and when she said “that could be a laugh”, the wheels for this podcast were put in motion.

I reached out to Colby and asked if he would make a return appearance and it was an immediate YES. He and Mrs. A also ended up reconnecting that same morning. Reno had asked me to pass on Paul’s number to Colby, so I took a chance and texted Paul and quickly got our second YES. Paul graciously helped me find Paul Nemeth and in no time that was our third YES.

In my conversation with Mrs. A, she talked about many players including Ryan VandenBussche and Rob Dykeman. So, off to google I went and I found contact info for Ryan and sent him a “cold call” email explaining what we were planning. Not long after, Ryan responded and was our fourth YES.

I initially emailed another Rob Dykeman with the same cold call email. After getting no response, I did some more looking and found the right Rob Dykeman on LinkedIn and he was our fifth YES. A special thank you to Rob, who fit this call in last night despite some sickness within his family. Much appreciated sir.

Tim and I have only done four of these podcasts so far, but this was by far the easiest one. Quick introductions of our guests and we sat back and enjoyed listening to the stories. We hope you will enjoy the stories as much as we did!

We are thrilled that we were able to be the conduit for these guys to connect with each other and Mrs. A after all these years. We will invite each player back for their own segment on Two-On-One.

Thank you so much to Mrs. A and these players. Tons of fun!
