Cornwall - Sep. 30, 2011 - Dalton McGuinty’s desperate debate night pledge that he would not raise taxes marks the third election in a row where he has made a similar pledge to Ontario voters. Today, Ontario PC candidate for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, Jim McDonell, posed a simple question to the McGuinty Liberals: ‘given your record of tax increases, why would anybody believe you now?’

"Tax Man" Dalton McGuinty broke his promise not to raise taxes after the 2003 and 2007 election, bringing in the so-called ‘health’ tax, the HST, and the sneaky eco tax. Despite his public denials, it is clear that, in order for McGuinty to pay for his own platform, he will have to break his promise and increase taxes once again.

A Tim Hudak Government will provide real relief including:

- Removing the HST from hydro and home heating bills, and the Debt Retirement Charge from home hydro bills, for savings of $275 for a typical family.
- An income sharing plan that will make the tax system more fair for families and put $476 or more back into the pockets of a typical dual-income family.
- Lowering income taxes 5% on the first $75,000 of taxable income for middle-class families, giving a typical taxpayer $258 back to spend on their own priorities.

“Ontario families cannot afford four more years of tax hikes from Dalton McGuinty, who is out of ideas and out of gas. And there is only one solution. When you go to the polls next week: vote for a Tim Hudak government. Vote for real change," said McDonell.
