OUR PAST - The Royal Hotel was a Montreal Road landmark
Cornwall - May. 11, 2011 - Boasting of "four generations of French Canadian tradition," the Royal Hotel was a longstanding landmark on the Montreal Road commercial strip now known as Le Village.
The building was struck by fire in 1956, but the establishment was rebuilt and continued on.
Thirty years later, in 1986, the Lefebvre family closed the hotel and opened Freddy's, which grew into a popular nightspot in the city.
Today, the building is home to Masse Cost Plus, a furniture store.
