Cornwall - Oct. 5, 2011 - To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Vintages annual auction of finest and rarest wines, LCBO is hosting a 100-point dinner on Friday, October 21, the first evening of the auction, at Waddington’s Auction House’s new facility at 275 King Street East in Toronto.

The three-course dinner, prepared by Chef Massimo Capra of Toronto’s acclaimed restaurant Mistura, will be paired with wines that have received a perfect score (100 points) from world-renowned wine critics. The wines include Chateau Montrose 1990, Chateau Rieussec 2001, Sine Qua Non Syrah The 17th Nail in My Cranium 2005 and Domaine du Pegau Cuvée da Capo 2000.

“The dinner is a rare opportunity for discerning wine lovers to experience some of the best wines in the world,” explains Barry O’Brien, LCBO Corporate Affairs Director and a chief organizer of the auction.

The exclusive evening begins with a Cristal Champagne cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m. After dinner, non-ticket holders will be able to participate in the auction, which will commence promptly at 8:00 p.m.

Tickets for the gala auction dinner are $375 and limited to 100 guests. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact Vintages customer service by calling 416-365-5767 or toll free at 1-800-267-4764.

The Vintages auction features three bidding sessions, the first one starting at 8:00 p.m. on October 21 and running until bidding closes. On October 22 and 23, sessions will start at 10 a.m. and last until bidding closes.

Wine enthusiasts from around the world are once again invited to bid live over the Internet during the auction. The Internet bidding is facilitated through web provider Artfact.com. Collectors can also bid in person at Waddington’s in writing or by phone, fax or email.

More than 1,900 lots of rare wines valued at $3 million will be up for bid this year. The selection will feature many first-time offerings, including case lots of Lafite-Rothschild 1982, large bottles of first-growth Bordeaux, choice cult Napa Valley and Burgundy rarities and cru Bordeaux from top vintages in original wood.

“Not only is the auction a great opportunity for collectors to buy wines that aren’t available through other channels, it is an excellent way to build a wine portfolio that will appreciate in value over time,“ notes O’Brien.

All wines consigned to auction are stored in temperature and humidity-controlled conditions.

Auction catalogues are available at the auction or as a download by clicking here. Previous auction customers will receive complimentary copies.

Waddington’s is a Toronto-based, Canadian-owned and operated company that has been in the auction and appraisal business since 1850, and is considered Canada’s largest purveyor of international calibre fine art.
