The Chamber Spring Home and Leisure Show - running April 8 to 10 - will play host to the first-ever Indoor Long Drive Championship.

Cornwall - Mar. 29, 2011 - The Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce is calling on all golfers, duffers and hackers to join in the fun at the upcoming Spring Home and Leisure Show from April 8 to 10.

"The Chamber is partnering with Summerheights Golf Links, Hits 94.7 and Wild Country 96.5 to present the first ever Indoor Long Drive Championship," said Chamber executive manager Lezlie Strasser in a press release.

"We're inviting all amateur golf fanatics to try out their 'off-the-tee' skills to find out just who's best at launching a record drive."

Don’t think you have the driving skills? Don’t worry. The contest will also have a closest to the diamond (courtesy of Pommier Jewellers), a mystery distance prize as well as daily prizes, including a 21-speed bike.

Located in Salon B at the Cornwall Civic Complex, the Indoor Long Drive Championship is part of the chamber's Family Fun Zone with plenty to do for moms, dads and kids alike.

The contest begins Friday evening and continues all day Saturday and into Sunday morning.

"Participants will pay a $1 fee for each shot taken," said Strasser, "and for this year's inaugural event, all net proceeds will go to Cornwall's award winning Communities in Bloom."

Once the initial portion of the championship is completed, those who qualify for the finals will be invited on Sunday afternoon to compete for the championship, a trophy and, of course, bragging rights.

"With many of our area golfers visiting the show, it promises to be a fun event along with friendly competition," declares Strasser.

The Spring Home and Leisure Show opens April 8 at 4 p.m. and runs until April 10. For further details on the event, click here.
