Cornwall - Mar. 15, 2011 - Over two centuries of history and friendships will be celebrated this summer as CCVS hosts a massive homecoming celebration to coincide with Lift-Off.

The city high school is calling on all former grads to attend Homecoming 2011, which will run from July 15 to 17.

A group of dedicated volunteers have begun assembling the itinerary for the event, and a website has been established along with Facebook and Twitter accounts to help spread the word about the celebration. The organizing committee is hoping to attract as many CCVS grads (and spouses) as possible, and they've already received one registration from B.C. and two from Mexico.

Volunteer Judy Bobka said the seeds for the homecoming were planted during the school's bi-centennial celebration five years ago when a group of people expressed a desire to celebrate the school's storied past more frequently.

Along with the celebration of longevity, CCVS is also celebrating a re-organization of Grades 7 to 12 students starting in September.

In order to take advantage of Lift-Off, the CCVS Homecoming events will be held prior to the nightly entertainment in Lamoureux Park.

Those interested in registering can do so on the CCVS Homecoming website. The early bird registration is $50 (including entry to Lift-Off), and those who sign up by April 1 will have a chance to win a hot air balloon ride.

Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School was founded in 1806 by John Strachan as the Cornwall Grammar School. Strachan would later go on to found the University of Toronto. The school has been through several physical changes over the years such as the earthquake in 1944, which destroyed the middle of the building and that had to be demolished.
