Alexandria - Mar. 4, 2011 - A long-time teacher and coach at Glengarry District High School has received a provincial award for coaching excellence.

Marc Sauve was one of nine coaches honoured for their contribution to sport and leadership at the recent 2011 Ontario Coaching Excellence Awards in London, Ont.

Sauve has been coaching at GDHS for the past 30 years, covering a wide range of sports such as soccer, hockey, basketball, volleyball, softball, track and field, and badminton.

Sauve is now approaching retirement, and over the years has been a mentor to coaches at his school, acting as a liaison between new coaches and offering them confidence and encouragement.

He has also acted as a huge school sport advocate, encouraging kids who would not show interest in sport to get involved. He offers leadership challenges to improve student athletic involvement, as well as after school student "coaching helper" positions to help kids obtain community hours.

The award was handed out by the Coaches Association of Ontario (CAO) during the Ontario Coaches Conference in London on February 26.
