Cornwall - Mar. 4, 2011 - Local artists will take centre stage at the Mayor's Spring Celebration of the Arts on April 9.

The event will consist of performances in Aultsville Theatre along with an arts reception and silent auction in the lobby area and student lounge at St. Lawrence College. A wide assortment of art exhibits, demonstrations, and unique items will be available to enjoy throughout the evening.

"This event will be an arts extravaganza that will give people inspiration, and showcase the activities and opportunities for involvement right here in our community," said Pam Maloney, chair of the Aultsville Theatre Management Committee.

Hosted by musician Graham Greer and featuring the Brigadoons, the concert will also include performances by the Riverdale String Ensemble, comedy sketches, Broadway and dance numbers, and a surprise performance by a number of community leaders.

The arts reception will feature displays and demonstrations by members of the Cornwall Regional Art Gallery, Focus Art, the Potters Guild, the Quilt of Belonging, DreamBuilder Studios, and other independent artists and arts organizations.

Beyond showcasing local artists, the event also serves as a fundraiser for Aultsville Theatre. As a non-profit, charitable organization, Aultsville Theatre relies on a combination of rental revenue and fundraising efforts to remain viable.

Mayor Bob Kilger said he's pleased to be associated with such a worthy event.

"This year in particular, it will showcase performers as well as visual artists, potters, sculptors, and local arts organizations," he said.

Tickets are $20 per person, and they are on sale now at Scotiabank and Cornwall and Seaway Valley Tourism.
