London - August 8, 2012 - Chants of “Go Carol, Go” echoed in ExCel as 2008 Olympic champ Carol Huynh fought her way to a bronze medal match Wednesday beating Isabell Sambou of Senegal with a score of 3-0 in the 48kg class.

“I feel amazing. I feel happy, I feel relieved,” said Huynh. “At the end of that match, I was feeling of course elated that I’d won another medal for Canada but at the same time I wanted to go out with a little more flare, but I’ll take it.”

Huynh’s coach Paul Rasug said she is a legend in the sport.

“She’s one of the hardest workers,” he said. “She’s an inspiration to all athletes, she is a great ambassador and at the end of the day a really great human being and I can’t think of anyone this could happen to that doesn’t deserve it more.”

Huynh went 3-1 to take bronze, defeating Senegal's Isabelle Sambou by a score of 3-0 in the bronze medal match.

“Carol Huynh is a legend and she proved it again tonight,” said 2012 Chef de Mission Mark Tewksbury. “She battled back from disappointment, refocused and dedicated herself to that bronze medal match. That kind of determination is what makes her such a great champion.”

“I’m very proud of Carol and her bronze medal performance,” said Assistant Chef de Mission Sylvie Bernier. “She wrestled four long matches in one day and, at the end of it all, she earned her spot on the Olympic podium.”

“Carol Huynh showed her champion’s pedigree tonight,” said Marcel Aubut, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee. “Competing in such a demanding sport, in such a tough discipline, she remained focused and came away with a spot on her second Olympic podium.”
