The Canadian Men's Eight rowing team managed to bring home an Olympic medal for the second consecutive Olympics, earning a silver medal. It was Canada's first non-bronze medal of the games, bringing them up to a total of five medals won though nearly five full days of competition.

Edmonton - August 1, 2012 - The Canadian Men's Eight rowing team managed to bring home an Olympic medal for the second consecutive Olympics, earning another trip to the podium with their second place finish. While they fell short of defending their Gold medal from 2008, they did Canada proud, earning our country their first non-bronze medal of the games and leaving Canada with five medals through four and a half days of competition at London 2012.

While the Canadian Eight were favoured to win the Gold by many back in '08, that wasn't the case this time around. Only three members of the current crew were part of the winning side in Beijng - Toronto's Andrew Byrnes, Victoria's Malcolm Howard and Brian Price of Belleville, Ontario, - leaving Will Crothers and Rob Gibson of Kingston, Ont., Jeremiah Brown of Cobourg, Ont., Conlin McCabe of Brockville, Ont., Doug Csima of Oakville, Ont., and Gabe Bergen of 100 Mile House, B.C., as new crew members. Making their second place finish even more satisfying.

While the heavily favoured Germans setting the pace in the 2000M race, it appeared as though Canada would have to settle for bronze, as they were trailing Great Britain entering the final 500 metres. To the Canadian credit, they dug deep, battled hard and manged to take over the hosts over the final 250m and actually made up a sizable amount of ground on Germany, in earning a top two finish.

Canada will look to add another medal to their total, when the Women's Eight go for Gold on Thursday. They head into the race as co-favourites with Team USA, in what many feel will be a two team battle for top spot on the podium.
