Ottawa - Oct. 28, 2011 - The words thriller and incredible are often over used in the sporting world, but the game tonight at Scotiabank Place was thrilling and the finish was simply incredible.

Nick Foligno scored with just 3.5 seconds left to give Ottawa a 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers. The win increased the Senators winning streak to four games. The Senators are now .500 (5-5). After the Senators lost to the Philadelphia Flyers last week 7-2 in one of the most embarrassing losses in recent Senators history to drop their record to 1-5, who would’ve seen this coming. The Senators held a player’s only closed door meeting after that game, where the veterans spoke up. The meeting seems to have paid dividends as the Senators have won four straight.

Who else was in the zone causing a turnover? Daniel Alfredsson again turned the puck over on the winning goal and contributed with a goal earlier in the game. The other three goals were scored by the young guns Nick Foligno, Stephane Da Costa and Colin Greening.

Da Costa was moved up to the second line tonight after the departure of Mika Zibanejad to Sweden and with Peter Regin on the injury reserve list. With his parents in the stands visiting from Paris (France), Da Costa didn’t disappoint. Chastised last week by the coach for not back checking or playing defense, Da Costa has strived to improve his defensive game, which he has done lately. Tonight he managed to add some offense with his second goal of the year and he could’ve had more. In the first period he one timed a nice pass from Colin Greening only to be stumped by Florida goalkeeper Jacob Markstrom. Da Costa has excellent speed and even better hands. I like the fact that he often looks for the empty space. If he can continue to do that and if he can play some 2 way hockey consistently, we could be looking at a gem.

Jason Spezza continues to lead the team with his play and now has a point in six straight games. Veteran leadership from both Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson are leading this team and I like the fact that Spezza is not giving the puck away like he used to.

Confidence is sky high as the Senators head to New York to play the Rangers on Saturday afternoon before heading home to play the rival Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday night.
