It is one hour away from two big cities with all the culture attractions that go with it (Trust me that one to one and a half hour drive is not very far. I often spent more than that just to get downtown!)

It is on the St Lawrence River - one of the great rivers of the world

I am already picking up vibes there are and will be plans to develop the waterfront. Imagine a walkway from the cotton mill to the dam - the funky shops and cafes will follow. More on that in future columns

Back in the day I was very active in the jock scene, so I have been trying to get a sense of what is around. I dropped into King George Park to catch some fastball and it broke my heart to find just 10-15 people, some keen players with no sponsors and mismatched uni’s.

I stopped by midget football - way too much staging, pomp & ceremony. It is not the super bowl! Suit the kids up, coach them on skills and let them play. This may be an old fart whining but what’s with the four downs? I told my brother I was offended by that. (I don’t know why but I was.) I did see some good athletes playing hard.

I keep bumping into a lot of senior jocks and the common denominator is they don’t move any better than I do! OH WELL!
