Mississauga - November 8, 2011 - Chapters released its newest addition to its line of e-readers this month, the Kobo Vox Colour.

The name was inspired by the Latin term Vox Populi, meaning the voice of the people.

This e-reader offers much more than reading. It’s equipped with all the aspects of a tablet. With a seven-inch LCD multi-touch display, it fits well in the palms of your hands. It has 8GB of storage with a Micro SD card slot that gives you up to 32 GB of storage.

The reading experience is upgraded. You can now highlight, take notes or look up a word with the built-in dictionary. Reading Life is a fun addition that offers a way to socially interact through reading. Awards are given for certain achievements like finishing a book or highlighting a passage.

The Kobo Vox contains thousands of magazines and newspapers in full colour, and 15,000 free Android apps. It comes pre-loaded with several apps like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Scrabble. The browser offers Internet wherever Wi-Fi is available.

You can watch movies and TV shows in full colour and listen to music with the 3.5-millimetre headphone jack.

Tristan Khan is a Kobo Customer Experience Rep at Chapters Queensway in Etobicoke.

When he heard about the Kobo Vox being released, he expected great reactions.

“The Kobo Vox had the ability to do what people had wanted and had been asking for out of the previous Kobo models,” said Khan.

It’s biggest competitor? The Kindle Fire from Amazon, offering the same features as the Vox for the same price.

“As with each generation of the Kobo, the Amazon Kindle is once again their biggest archenemy,” said Khan. “The fact that you can come into Chapters and pick a copy up in person has always been a selling point of the Kobo over the Kindle.”

There has been a great reception of the Vox and it is a hot item at Chapters.

“We had a large number of pre-orders for it and when it was actually released people came in right at opening to purchase theirs and the traffic still continues to be high at our Kobo section,” said Khan.

Khan explains that there are many unique features the Kobo Vox offers.

“A cool addition is the ability to enter a night mode while reading where the screen switches from the usual black letters on a white back to white letters on a black background,” said Khan. “Also the ability to switch to a landscape view while reading.”

Like all devices, the Kobo can make some improvements.

“The only thing is that you can’t download apps from Android market,” said Khan. “However, the Getjar app on the Vox does offer plenty more than I think one would need.”

The Kobo Vox costs $199.

“If you want something that does more than just reading, I cannot stress that a device that offers such a wide range of features like movies, music, apps, games, and of course reading is a great deal at $199,” said Khan.

The Kobo Vox is available at chapters.ca, Best Buy and Future Shop
